TCN has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, Yobe States and Gazaoua in the Niger Republic, due to maintenance work set for Sunday, June 28, 2026. The outage stems from upgrades at the Kumbotos 330 kilovolt transmission substation, where contractors will replace the existing 350mm² conductors with stronger 800mm² lines and upgrade the bus II jumpers to improve transmission reliability.

Customers served by Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) will lose power during the works. Specific localities mentioned include Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State and Gazaoua across the border in Niger Republic.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria said the work is necessary to strengthen the network and reduce frequent collapses. While no exact duration was given, residents and businesses in the affected areas should prepare for intermittent supply, consider alternative power sources such as inverters or generators, and follow updates from their respective DisCos. The maintenance is part of TCN's ongoing effort to upgrade the national grid and improve power delivery nationwide.
