President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former House of Representatives spokesperson Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as the new Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), effective immediately. Namdas replaces Dr. Dakorinama Alabo George, who resigned to contest an elective office in Adamawa State. In the same announcement, Tinubu named Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), replacing Engineer Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama who stepped down for political ambitions, and reappointed Mr. Chukwuma Umeoji as Executive Director, Corporate Services of NDPHC after his earlier resignation to pursue office in Anambra State. These appointments aim to strengthen leadership in agencies critical to border community development and national power supply. The BCDA focuses on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security in Nigeria’s border areas, while NDPHC drives electricity generation, transmission, and distribution under the National Integrated Power Project. Leadership changes in these sectors can affect service delivery, power reliability, and economic activities in border regions and nationwide. Nomadas brings journalism, public relations, and legislative experience; Obahiagbon brings legislative experience from Edo State and the National Assembly; Umeoji previously served in the National Assembly representing Aguata Constituency. Stakeholders should monitor how these appointees implement border development projects and address NDPHC’s ongoing challenges, including the reported N600 billion debt owed by NBET that hampers power operations.
