President Bola Tinubu urged the National Assembly to amend Nigeria's constitution to establish State Police, aiming to combat terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. Speaking at an interfaith fast-breaking event, Tinubu emphasized the need for indivisible commitment to national security and welfare. He stated, 'We are committed to making law for the welfare prosperity of the country. What I want to ask for tonight is for you to start thinking how best to amend the Constitution to incorporate the state police. This is for us to secure our country, take over our forest from marauders, free our children from fear.' The 36 governors previously endorsed State Police creation in 2024 following NEC reports. Tinubu's call comes amid escalating security challenges in Nigeria.
