Nollywood veteran Kenneth Okonkwo claims President Tinubu is persecuting former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai because he joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Okonkwo stated this on Channels Television's 'The Morning Brief', arguing El-Rufai's detention beyond 48 hours violates fundamental rights. He criticized Tinubu's use of anti-corruption instruments against opposition, demanding El-Rufai's immediate release while insisting the court should decide guilt. Okonkwo emphasized that detention without bail power exceeds legal limits, stating, 'Forty-eight hours is what a government has to keep anybody in detention without granting him bail.' He called for El-Rufai's release, asserting, 'We are not saying he should not face trial but his fundamental human right should be guaranteed.' This political conflict highlights ADC's growing opposition role and potential government targeting of defectors.
