Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Reverend Jesse Jackson, a civil rights icon and Baptist preacher who died at age 84. Tinubu described Jackson as a servant-leader who fought alongside Martin Luther King Jr. for racial justice in the US and globally. He noted Jackson's role in advancing civil liberties in Africa and linking African leaders with the Congressional Black Caucus. Tinubu personally witnessed Jackson's activism in Chicago during the 1970s and credited him with helping Barack Obama become America's first Black president by breaking the 'glass ceiling' in 1984 and 1988. Jackson promoted civil liberties across Africa during his career as a preacher and political organizer.
