Tinubu Urges Traditional Leaders to Combat Preventable Diseases
President Tinubu called on traditional and religious leaders to take responsibility for fighting preventable diseases during a National Summit on Health and Well-being in Abuja. He emphasized that improving Nigerians' health is a collective duty, stating: 'The war against preventable diseases is the responsibility of all of us, and I’m here as a leader to respectfully say that the responsibility is also yours as traditional rulers.' The president highlighted the expansion of Universal Health Coverage to include traditional leaders, civil society, and the private sector. He urged leaders to monitor primary healthcare facilities in their communities and report gaps to authorities. The National Health Fellowship Programme, deploying young Nigerians to all 774 local government areas, was also mentioned as a key initiative to reduce maternal and child deaths.
