President Bola Tinubu has urged all United Nations member states to incorporate the Preamble of the UN Charter into their national constitutions, saying the move would reinforce global peace, justice, human dignity and international cooperation. Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, delivered the call at an informal UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Monday, June 30, 2026, ahead of Tinubu’s participation in the 81st UNGA session scheduled for September. Ibrahim said the proposal aims to deepen commitment to peace, security, human rights, justice, respect for international law, social progress and peaceful coexistence among nations. He noted the proposal received applause from delegates, reflecting broad support for initiatives that strengthen the UN’s founding principles. The appeal underscores Nigeria’s push for a stronger, more inclusive and effective UN dedicated to peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity worldwide.
