Tinubu Wins APC Presidential Ticket for 2027 Election
President Bola Tinubu clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 election after a landslide victory in the party's primary held across Nigeria this past Saturday. The incumbent overwhelmingly defeated his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, with Mr Osifo recording zero or negligible votes in most states where results have been declared.
In Rivers State, Tinubu polled 280,468 votes while Osifo recorded zero votes across all 23 local government areas. Similar outcomes occurred in Gombe State (450,516 to zero), Osun State (100,880 to zero), and Ebonyi State (207,579 to zero). The largely peaceful election was supervised by governors appointed as collation officers by the APC.
Tinubu will receive his certificate of return and the party flag as APC's candidate on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. With such overwhelming internal support, how will opposition parties strategize to challenge what appears to be a well-positioned incumbent candidate in the 2027 presidential race?
