Tinubu's aide declares Peter Obi 'will never be president'
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, stated on News Central TV's '60 Minutes with Mr Kay' on Friday that Peter Obi of the ADC 'will never be president' and 'will never cross the central business district that will lead Aso Villa.' Bwala claimed presidential candidates must be visionary, 'organic grassrootsed,' and sincere—qualities he says Obi lacks.
Bwala specifically accused Obi of lacking genuine grassroots support, alleging he instead 'went to the church with a narrative when Buhari was in government that the church is being disenfranchised and it's time for the church to take back their country.' He called this a 'fake narrative' used to rally pastors and bishops, not organic support.
The comments reflect ongoing tensions between the Tinubu administration and Obi, a former Anambra governor and 2023 presidential candidate. Bwala's characterization frames Obi as fundamentally lacking the traits needed for the presidency, while Obi's allies typically reject such assessments as political rhetoric.
When evaluating presidential candidates, how much weight should voters give to character assessments like these versus concrete policy proposals and track records? Should perceptions of authenticity and grassroots connection outweigh specific plans for governance?
