Tinubu’s aide urges Nigerians to hold governors accountable for kidnappings

He stated, "Every time someone is kidnapped or taken against their will in any part of Nigeria, the governor of that state should be held responsible," and added that "every local government area, all the kidnappings have happened in local government areas." Bwala also questioned the use of funds from the Safe School Initiative, noting the programme was meant to make schools safer by building fences, setting up early warning systems and conducting safety checks, and urged Nigerians to ask their governors where that money was spent. The remarks highlight growing public concern over rising kidnappings nationwide and the perceived mismatch between security budgets and outcomes. Citizens can use this call for accountability to demand transparency from local leaders about security spending and the Safe School funds, and to press for stronger protective measures in their communities.
