Tinubu Sends Delegation to Jesse Jackson's Burial
Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a five-person delegation to represent him at the final burial rites of Reverend Jesse Jackson, the American civil rights leader who died at age 84 on February 17, 2026. The delegation, led by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, includes key officials such as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa. They will deliver President Tinubu's message of condolences to Jackson's family. Tinubu previously described Jackson as a great friend of Nigeria and Africa, praising his role in opposing apartheid and supporting Nelson Mandela's release. Jackson's burial programme includes services in Chicago, South Carolina, and Washington, D.C., concluding with a private homegoing on March 7.
