Troops foil mass abduction, rescue 27 victims in Sokoto, Zamfara

According to a post on X by security analyst Bakatsine, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA foiled an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway and rescued 27 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sokoto and Zamfara states over the past two days (July 20‑21, 2026). The soldiers responded swiftly to reports of the attack, engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gun battle, and forced them to flee before they could carry out the abduction.

During the same operations, security personnel also rescued 27 people who had previously been kidnapped in various incidents across the two states. All rescued victims have since been reunited with their families. In addition, the troops recovered several livestock and motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

The successes highlight ongoing efforts to curb banditry and kidnapping in the North West, where attacks on travelers and communities remain frequent.
