US President Donald Trump has doubled import tariffs to 15% on Saturday, defying a Supreme Court ruling that struck down his authority to impose tariffs under a 1977 economic emergency act. The move comes after the court rejected Trump's 10% levy announced Friday, forcing him to use a different legal avenue. Republicans attacked the conservative justices who sided with the majority, calling them "fools and lap dogs." The ruling marks Trump's biggest Supreme Court defeat since returning to office, though steel and aluminum tariffs remain unaffected. Brazil's President Lula urged equal treatment of all countries, while Germany plans a joint European response. Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro called for ending "chaotic tariffs" harming farmers and small businesses. The new 15% duty is temporary (150 days) with exemptions for pharma and USMCA goods.
