Trump Slams UK for Late Iran War Support, Dismisses Carrier Deployment
U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the United Kingdom for offering military support to the U.S.-led conflict with Iran only after Washington had gained the upper hand, dismissing reports of two British aircraft carriers being deployed to the Middle East. Trump, on Truth Social, told British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that "we don't need them any longer" despite the UK placing its HMS Prince of Wales on higher operational readiness. The move does not guarantee deployment, as the carrier could still be used for NATO exercises. Trump argued British support would have been more valuable earlier in the conflict, stating "it would have been nice to have had them two weeks ago." The remarks came during a dignified transfer ceremony for six U.S. soldiers killed in Kuwait, where Trump defended the ongoing war effort as a decisive U.S. victory. He also suggested Washington should determine Iran's next leadership to prevent future conflicts, while ruling out Kurdish involvement.
