Earlier today, at a campaign rally in Nebraska, President Donald Trump said, 'Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego...this is a very small price to pay,' suggesting Iran could attack those U.S. cities. The comment was made while discussing Iran’s nuclear program.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the remark dangerous, saying it puts a target on two of America’s biggest cities and a major naval hub. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said LA is accustomed to Trump’s criticism but the call for foreign attack is outrageous. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria declared the city is not collateral damage and urged the president to keep it out of 'reckless war talk.' Tom Cochran of the U.S. Conference of Mayors insisted no president should ever describe an attack on an American city by a hostile power as acceptable.

For Nigerians, the remark matters because any escalation between the U.S. and Iran could affect global oil markets. Nigeria, as a major oil exporter, sees its revenue and domestic fuel prices tied to crude oil prices. Heightened Middle East tensions often lead to price spikes, which could increase transportation and living costs. Nigerians with family or business interests in Los Angeles or San Diego may also have safety concerns.

Stay informed through reliable news sources and official statements. Monitor oil price trends and fuel pump prices for potential changes. If you have ties to the affected U.S. cities, keep contact with loved ones and follow local advisories. The White House defended the comment, saying the media reaction is not rooted in reality, but the backlash from officials shows serious concern.
