US President Donald Trump told allies including the UK that America will no longer provide support, urging them to take oil from the Strait of Hormuz themselves. In a Tuesday post on Truth Social, Trump said countries that didn't support the US during its conflict with Iran must 'learn to take care of yourselves' because 'the USA won't be there to help you anymore.' He suggested they have the 'courage' to seize fuel from the strategic waterway, adding that the US has plenty of jet fuel for sale if supplies run low. Trump claimed Iran has been 'devastated' and that 'the difficult part is completed,' calling on nations to 'go get your own oil!'

This marks a dramatic shift in US foreign policy, withdrawing security guarantees from traditional allies. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global oil shipments—any disruption could spike oil prices worldwide.

For Nigeria, higher global oil prices would mean costlier fuel at pumps, impacting transportation, food prices, and inflation. The naira could also weaken due to higher import bills.

Will government absorb the cost or pass it to consumers? Should businesses hedge fuel purchases now? Could this accelerate local refining investments? Trump's statement forces allies to reconsider energy security—what's your plan if fuel prices jump next month?
