England head coach Thomas Tuchel announced his 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday, May 23, 2026. The tournament will be held this summer across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Notable inclusions with Nigerian heritage are Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka. Also selected are forwards Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, midfielders Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson, defenders Ezri Konsa, John Stones, Marc Guehi, Jarell Quansah, Tino Livramento, Nico O’Reilly, Djed Spence and Reece James, plus goalkeepers Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and James Trafford.

Significant absentees include Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, alongside Morgan Gibbs‑White, Adam Wharton and Luke Shaw. Djed Spence was chosen over Trent Alexander‑Arnold for the right‑back spot.

For Nigerian fans, seeing three players of Nigerian descent in England’s World Cup squad offers a point of pride and a chance to follow their contributions on the global stage. Their performances could inspire local youth and highlight the talent pipeline from the diaspora.

Will you track Eze, Madueke and Saka’s matches in the tournament, or use their success to motivate grassroots football ambitions in your community?
