UBA wins Nigeria’s Best Bank for Retail and ESG at 2026 Euromoney Awards
UBA has been named Nigeria’s Best Bank for Retail Banking and Sustainability Leadership (ESG) at the 2026 Euromoney Awards for Excellence, presented on July 17, 2026 at The Peninsula London. The double award highlights the bank’s Green Financing Facility for renewable energy, a ₦5 billion women‑owned business loan programme with the Bank of Industry, and its net‑zero emissions target by 2050. UBA also noted solar power installations at 50 branches and ESG training for over 16,000 staff.
In retail banking, UBA’s customer base grew to over 37 million by end‑2025 and retail revenue rose to ₦429.5 billion, more than quadrupling previous levels. The bank’s AI chatbot LEO was upgraded to become Africa’s first AI‑powered platform enabling cross‑border transfers in local currencies via the Pan‑African Payment and Settlement System.
UBA Group MD Oliver Alawuba said the awards prove sustainable banking and commercial success reinforce each other, while Group Head Alero Ladipo emphasized the bank’s Customer First philosophy. With operations in 20 African nations plus the UK, US, France and UAE, UBA serves more than 45 million customers.
What does this mean for you? If you bank with UBA, you can expect continued investment in green financing, women‑focused loans, solar‑powered branches and AI‑driven cross‑border services. For competitors, the awards set a benchmark for integrating sustainability with retail growth.
