AD founding secretary Prof. Udenta O. Udenta proposed an 18-month Government of National Unity after the 2027 elections during an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily this Monday. He argued elections alone cannot build trust or guarantee stability, asking what becomes of Nigeria the day after results are announced.

Udenta wants a Sovereign Commission for Democratic Sustainability and National Stability comprising the sitting president, president-elect, all certified presidential candidates, national party chairmen, NLC, TUC, ASUU, NUJ, and civil society. He claims the initiative has backing from supporters of President Tinubu, former VP Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Governor Seyi Makinde. Crucially, he wants candidates to commit before the election that they'll participate in the commission whether they win or lose.

This remains a proposal with no official adoption by any candidate or institution. Udenta frames it as a practical dialogue platform, not another committee of former officeholders issuing forgotten communiqués. No timeline for implementation beyond the post-2027 window.

Will a pre-election unity pact like this gain traction with major candidates, or will 2027 follow the usual winner-takes-all pattern?
