UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for international cooperation to combat Islamophobia, warning that discrimination against Muslims is escalating worldwide. Speaking at an event marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia in New York, Guterres emphasized that millions of Muslims face exclusion, institutional discrimination, and socioeconomic marginalization. He urged governments to implement protective legislation and security measures that respect human rights rather than stigmatize communities. Guterres also challenged technology companies to combat online hate speech and misinformation, stating that silence enables prejudice to spread. UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock echoed these concerns, noting that digital platforms accelerate the spread of misinformation and prejudice. Both leaders stressed that combating Islamophobia is essential for upholding universal human rights and shared humanity.
