The management of Classic FM announced the passing of Temisan Okomi, a veteran Nigerian sports broadcaster and journalist, following a brief illness. Okomi, who served as the Group Head of the Sports Department at Classic FM 97.3, died on April 17, 2026, according to tributes shared by colleagues and family. His career spanned over two decades, beginning with roles at HiTV and Lagos Television (LTV) before he became a presenter on Lagos Talks 91.3. He joined Classic FM in March 2014 and rose to lead its sports division.

Okomi was widely respected for his deep insights into sports, his mentorship of young journalists, and his dedication to family—survived by his wife Veronica and three sons. Colleagues such as Japheth Omojuwa and Ayo Oyalowo praised his intentionality in uplifting others and his willingness to take a stand. Tributes highlighted his role in launching several media careers and his pride in his children’s academic achievements.

His death marks a significant loss to Nigeria’s sports broadcasting community, leaving a void in both professional mentorship and industry expertise that shaped a generation of sports media professionals.
