VP Shettima launches 10,000-tractor agriculture programme at Niger Delta summit
VP Kashim Shettima launched the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme aiming to deploy 10,000 tractors over five years, alongside local assembly plants, the John Deere Tractorisation Programme, Greener Hope Project and Green Imperative Programme at the Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment summit. Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh said agriculture is central to Nigeria's economic transformation and will boost opportunities for youths and women in the Niger Delta. The APC also retained Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 election.
These initiatives aim to raise food output, cut import bills, create jobs and attract private investment to the region’s farms. Mechanising thousands of smallholder plots could lift yields and incomes, while the Green Hope and Green Imperative projects focus on youth and women agribusiness training.
Farmers and investors in the Niger Delta should watch for tractor allocation details on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture website. Youths and women groups can follow Niger Delta Development Commission announcements for training and grant programmes linked to the Green Hope and Green Imperative initiatives. Stakeholders are encouraged to align investments with the newly formed agricultural council to tap the pledged funding pipeline.
