The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released results for the Computer-Based WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 First Series. A total of 10,523 candidates registered (up 11.49% from 2025), with 10,480 sitting at 166 centres nationwide between 28 January and 14 February.

32.72% of candidates (3,429) obtained credits in at least five subjects including English Language and Mathematics—the key benchmark for tertiary institution admission. This marks an improvement from 30.95% in 2024 and 26.96% in 2025. Of those meeting the benchmark, 53.86% were male and 46.14% female.

Gender breakdown for all sit-in candidates was nearly even: 48.72% male (5,106) and 51.28% female (5,374). The council accommodated 43 candidates with special needs, including visually impaired, hearing-impaired, and albinos.

Results processing is complete for 80.32% of candidates (8,418). The remaining 19.68% (2,062) have some subjects pending due to errors traceable to the candidates. Additionally, 75 results (0.72%) are withheld pending investigation into alleged malpractice.

Candidates are advised to check results via WAEC's official portal and can access digital certificates online. Hard copy certificates require application through the certificate request portal.

With an improved pass rate but nearly 20% of results still pending or withheld, what's your next step? If your results are incomplete, contact WAEC immediately. If withheld, prepare for potential investigations. If you passed, start your tertiary institution applications now—competition for spots will be fierce with this improving trend.
