YAN warns APC against manipulating National Youth Leader election
The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has raised concerns over alleged attempts by certain APC interests to manipulate the party's National Youth Leader election process. National Speaker Famuyibo Oluwasegun stated YAN is alarmed by signals suggesting internal arrangements may narrow competition rather than allow open democratic contestation. The assembly warned that restricting the process through zoning, procedural barriers, or administrative technicalities could undermine transparency, fairness, and internal democracy, potentially alienating young party members. Famuyibo emphasized the National Youth Leader position is strategic for mobilizing millions of young Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections under President Tinubu. He cautioned that imposed candidates or limited competition could generate dissatisfaction, citing historical precedents like the Sule Lamido controversy. The assembly stressed that retaining current leadership without transparent competition would compromise APC's youth credibility and reduce influence among young progressives. Northern youths are highlighted as a crucial electoral demographic whose participation could influence future outcomes.
