Zamfara pushes Northern Nigeria human capital blueprint at Abuja summit
Zamfara State Government, led by Speaker Hon Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, proposed a unified Northern Nigeria Human Capital Development Compact and Regional Blueprint at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja yesterday. The proposal came during the Summit on Enhancing Human Capital Development in Northern Nigeria organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and Northern Governors' Forum.
The Speaker highlighted that Northern Nigeria accounts for Nigeria's highest share of out-of-school children, while multidimensional poverty, maternal mortality, youth unemployment, and insecurity continue to undermine regional productivity and economic growth. He stressed these interconnected challenges require a coordinated regional response, stating "no single state can resolve a regional crisis alone."
The proposed framework includes shared targets, annual scorecards, peer learning, evidence-based decision-making, and joint accountability across education, healthcare, skills development, and social protection. Zamfara also urged federal government and development partners to support innovative financing, digital transformation, climate resilience, youth employability, girls' education, and social protection initiatives in vulnerable communities. The delegation included the Head of Service, SDGs advisor, Primary Healthcare Board head, and ALGON Chairman.
